Virtual sound environment creation

Symphonia

Symphonia allows to simulate a realistic sound environment and makes the patient feel the benefits provided by advanced hearing aid features, without having to leave the room. Symphonia’s advanced algorithm reproduces background noises recorded with special multichannel microphones, to make the patient feel inside a realistic external environment.

In order to make Symphonia work, you only need a specific multichannel USB soundcard connected to the PC and a set of loudspeakers.

SOUND FIELD SOUNDS
Symphonia provides background noises recorded with special multichannel microphones, and reproducing them with an advanced algorithm makes the patient actually feel inside a realistic external environment.

DIRECTIONAL SOURCES
Voices or musical instruments can be added to the sound field and moved all around the patient, to simulate directional sounds coming from different directions (up to 3 different sound sources). It is also possible to add custom sound files to the library and use them as additional sources.

SPEAKERS
The loudspeakers configuration is flexible: it consists of 3 to 8 active or passive loudspeakers (an additional multichannel amplifier is required in the latter case) placed freely from 1 to 2 meters around the place where the patient sits.

CALIBRATION
Symphonia allows you to control sounds emission with real dB SPL values (from 50 to 85): for this reason, a calibration procedure is available. Also, any asymmetrical disposition of loudspeakers is automatically compensated.

Versatile
Flexible loudspeakers configuration
The loudspeakers configuration is flexible: it consists of 3 to 8 active or passive loudspeakers.

Configurations Symphonia works with a multichannel soundcard (ESI Gigaport) and a system consisting of a minimum of 3 up to 8 powered loudspeakers, or unpowered loudspeakers with an external amplifier.
Available signals It is possible to select between different soundfields:
• Coffee shop
• Restaurant
• Street
• Car
• Ocean Waves
All recorded with special multichannel microphones, they can be used as “background” for the sound sources that can be placed at liking, and include vocal and musical instruments recordings.
More signals could be added in the future.
The user can also import custom sound files (.wav or .mp3) and use them as sources.
Sources management It is possible to add up to 3 directional sound sources emitting at the same time, with different angle and intensity for each source.
Every source can also be emitted from all the speakers and become an omnidirectional sound.
Intensity range From 50 to 85 dB SPL perceived in the central point, for both the soundfield and the sources.
Speakers positioning It is possible to place the speakers at a distance from 1 m to 2 m around the patient’s seat.
Calibration Calibration should be performed at first start with a free field sound level meter, in order to obtain a precise sound emission.
Minimum system requirements Processor: Intel® i5, 5th generation or above
RAM: 4 GB
Operative System: Windows 10 or later, 32 or 64 bit
Supported soundcards: ESI Gigaport HD+, ESI Gigaport eX
